SINGLE RELEASE
HONEY & THE BEAR VIDEO
CLOSE TO THE EDGE
The debut single from Honey & The Bear’s fourth album ‘A Wish & A Tide’ due for release on the 23rd April 2026.
Hugely popular East Anglian duo Lucy and Jon Hart have two distinct strengths when it comes to songwriting – conjuring trademark ‘sense of place’ songs inspired by their native Suffolk and effortlessly juggling them alongside the most tender, poignant and personal numbers. Whichever way you look at it, they have proved themselves adept at creating songs that are ‘close to home’. Performing as Honey and The Bear, the husband and wife have already celebrated their 10th anniversary milestone on the road, produced three critically acclaimed albums and become firm festival favourites.
The Suffolk stamp is here in their debut single (video above) from the new album ‘A Wish & A Tide’. ‘Close to the Edge’ opens with Toby Shaer’s dancing flute – a gently upbeat number based on the Suffolk legend of the Merman, known as The Green Man of Orford. It’s a number that draws you in to the album, like the Merman to the depths. With the help of co-producer and videographer Rob Leveritt, the pair recorded at Iken on the banks of the River Alde in Suffolk. The video also features snippets of Orford Castle, as well as at shots from their home studio.
Lucy says “We wanted to experiment with reflections and the play of light on the water, both from above and underneath. The song is taken from the perspective of the merman looking up at the world through the veil of the water, so it seemed like a crucial element to have this reflective, slightly vague sense of depicting figures weaving throughout the video.”
A Wish & A Tide is another magical mix of affecting songs and the duo’s own modern-day ‘hymns’ to their home ground – an album that by turns educates,
evokes, emotes and entertains. Produced by Jon Hart and mastered by Nick Cooke, it will be released on April 23. It will be available in CD and DL format and, for the first time, limited edition vinyl, from Honey and the Bear’s own website and via iTunes, Amazon and other online stores.
